The Secret Design Strategies of Highly Successful Web Sites Jared M. Spool, Founding Principal, User Interface Engineering This tutorial is a special IA Summit version of the very successful UIE Roadshow we conducted last summer for more than 1,500 web designers and information architects in thirteen cities. This one-day tutorial shares the secrets User Interface Engineering has uncovered in researching hundreds of web sites. We've discovered several prominent user behavior patterns that affect how designers approach their design goals. In this day, we review these patterns, showing the most effective designs and many examples from designs that didn't quite cut it. Response from the Summer 2003 UIE Roadshow was amazingly positive. People really felt they learned a lot and liked the interactive format. We expect that the IA Summit version will also be a big hit. The tutorial is mostly lecture, with a combination of live and canned examples. After each of the four lectures and their Q&A sessions, we display web sites from the class participants and use the materials covered to explore the attributes of their sites. | ||||
